Course Memo

Practicum - focuses on the evaluation and preparation of civil lawsuit from the time a client first makes contact with a lawyer's office to the beginning of trial. Specific topics covered will include; client interviewing and counseling; factual investigation; locating and interviewing witness; identifying causes of action and defenses; case evaluation; selecting the forum; pleadings preparation; the conduct of formal discovery; pretrial motions; settlement proposals and alternative dispute resolution; locating and working with experts; witness preparation; and preparing the trial notebook. Relevant ethical and professional considerations will be addressed throughout the course. Students will work on realistic civil case requiring them to apply the knowledge and skills being learned in both document preparation and in-class exercises.
